Pasta Fagioli

Coming from a mostly German background, on New Years Day my family would normally have the traditional pork roast and kraut dinner. This year we went Italian, and it just so happened that Chef John did, too. Since it was a good night for some hot soup anyway, I made his Pasta Fagioli.

I didn't have the ear pasta, so I snapped off one inch segments of fettuccine and also substituted the Swiss chard for spinach. It turned out amazing! So don't ever be afraid to experiment if you don't have the "proper" ingredients.
